Native American Heritage Month Begins
November is Native American Heritage Month, first declared by President George H.W. Bush in 1990.
The month is a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. The Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness (MCNAA) describes the month as an opportunity to educate the general public about Native Americans, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which Native people have worked to conquer these challenges.
